Straffe Hendrik Quadrupel is a strong and dark beer with a thick white head. It has a very malty flavor, rather dry with hints of fruits and with a real warming aftertaste. It is one of Belgium’s stronger beers and its flavor evolves over time, which makes it an ideal beer to keep in the cellar. It has an alcohol content of 11.0%.
Serving temperature: 11-13°C
Straffe Hednrik Quadrupel is still a quite recent beer, but nonetheless it has already won numerous prizes. In 2013 it won the silver medal at the European Beer Star in the category ‘Belgian Style-Strong Ale’. It is generally considered to be one of Belgium’s very best dark strong beers.
This beer is brewed at Brewery De Halve Maan. Until recently this was the only active brewery within the city walls of the historical city of Brugge (also known as Bruges). The brewing history of the brewery dates back to as far as 1564, but their flagship beers Straffe Hendrik Quadrupel and Straffe Hendrik Tripel are quite recent. They were launched in their current form in 2008 and proved an almost instant success, in Belgium as well as abroad.
