La Trappe Quadrupel Oak Aged has aged in wooden barrels, is an unfiltered, fermented Trappist beer.
In 2009, the brewery Koningshoeven started to restore an old tradition; Quadrupel maturing in wooden casks (or barrels). This method of maturing creates a unique, complex flavor. The taste varies by type of vessel used. Beer can be stored for many years and is a treat for the true beer lover. Also this yeast in the bottle and full flavor with many tannins will surprise even many wine drinkers!
Serving temperature: 16-18°C
Oak Aged Types of vessels
All kinds of used barrels, both new and used. The new vessels provide tannins that have a vanilla and almond association. By working with different types of vessels, arise surprisingly interesting flavor combinations. These depend on the drink that has been previously in barriques. Port, whiskey, wine, cognac or bourbon. But also the type of wood. The taste is different for every batch.
Meanwhile, we have proudly presented BATCH18. These Oak Aged Batch18 is in the base similar as the Batch17, and therefore it has a copper brown color and a fragrance blend of muscatel aroma and Quadruple. Besides the obvious presence of grapes are also to recognize the taste of persimmons and vanilla well. This batch has more smoke flavor, because new stained wood is used. However, the wood tannins are less present. The aromas are thus become softer and creamier, resulting in a complex but readily accessible flavor.
(Details of muscatel: fruity: orange blossom, honey, light orange, raisin, floral: rose, geranium, lily, spicy tobacco leaf, cedar, clove).
