This Chouffe beer won the Beer world Championship 2000. It was the very first beer of Brasserie d’Achouffe, located in a village in the Ardennes called Achouffe. It started off in 1982 by two hobby-brewers, but their beer, as well as the “Chouffe gnome”, quickly gained a lot of popularity both in Belgium and abroad. The brewery continued to grow exponentially and in 2009 this resulted in a friendly take-over by Duvel-Moortgat.
However, the Chouffe beers are still brewed in Achouffe, and the brewery has become one of the main tourist attractions in the area. It is definitely worth a visit, especially in August when the Annual Chouffe feast takes place. The blonde beer is the brewery’s flagship beer, but they have more than just this beer to offer. They also brew a stronger and more bitter version of this Chouffe beer called ‘Chouffe Houblon’ as well as a very unique dark beer, scotch style which has received the appropriate name Mc Chouffe.
