The Grimbergen beers, with their very distinctive phoenix on the bottle have become a familiar sight in pubs and beer shops all over the world. With their full and malty flavors, both the blond beers and the dark beers have managed to seduce beer lovers all over the planet. During its history, the abbey of Grimbergen has been destroyed and burnt down several times, and for long it seemed like their brewing days were over. But in 1958, the monks made a deal with brewery Alken-Maes and that was the beginning of a very successful resurrection.
Nowadays Grimbergen beer is considered to be amongst the top abbey beers in the world. Grimbergen Tripel is one Grimbergen’s strongest beers, with exception of Grimbergen Optimo Bruno, a rich dark beer with an alcohol content of 10%. Another strong beer by the same brewery is Grimbergen Goud, similar in alcohol volume but much less dense and a more hoppy flavor.
