Lou Pepe Framboise by brewery Cantillon is a unique framboise beer. Contrarily to their regular framboise (Rose de Gambrinus) which is made with a blend of young and aged lambic, this beer is made only with carefully selected 2-year-old lambic. It ripens in wooden wine barrels that are brought over from the Bordeaux region, which give it a wine-like flavor.
Another characteristic of this Lou Pepe beer is that it contains no less than 300 grams of raspberries per liter lambic. This results in a beer with a mellow and fruity flavor, some people refer to it as the ‘Rolls Royce of framboise’. It is available once per year around August and it has an alcohol content of 5.0%.
Lou Pepe is dialect word from the South-West of France which means ‘The Grandfather’, a role that brew master Jean Van Roy fulfills in his own family.
