Johan Claes lives in Wezemaal. Near the Monfort college, one of the most famous boarding schools in Belgium. Once upon a time the abbey of Our Lady of the Park stood in the exact spot of the boarding school. In Rotselaar, a Cistercian abbey - with nuns - existed until the French revolution, and no beer was brewed there. Still, Wezemaal had its brewery like any village in Brabant. With the Broeder Jacob® beer Johan Claes goes back to the tradition of village beers. Broeder Jacob® is brewed according to the tradition of the Belgian double and Triple beers with refermentation in the bottle.
