Back in the days, when lambic was very popular in the region around Brussels, there were only four types of lambic: gueuze, kriek, framboise and faro. Nowadays, with the recent revival of the lambic beer, there is more choice than ever. Because brewers like to create something new every time, you can now find apple beer, blackcurrant beer, strawberry beer, grape beer, peach beer and many others.
The best-known beer style in this category is the framboise. This is a raspberry beer that has been around for centuries; a typical summer-drink that is nowadays available all year round. The most famous beers in this category are Rose de Gambrinus by Brewery Cantillon and the sweeter Lindemans Framboise.
Another beer style with a long history is the Faro beer. This beer contains no fruit. It is a gueuze beer to which candy-sugar has been added togive it a sweet and sour flavor.
Just like in the other lambic categories, there is clear disctinction between the traditional, sour lambic beers and the sweeter ones. Sour beers include all the beers by breweries like Cantillon, 3 Fonteinen, Hanssens, Girardin and Oud Beersel. In the second category, with the sweeter flavor, the best known beers are Lindemans Framboise, Timmermans Strawberry beer and Lindemans Pecheresse.
